Volendam Windmills, Holland

Volendam located in North Holland is such an amazing place to visit. It is a fishermen’s village with approximately 45 minutes’ drive from the city of Amsterdam. This highly popular tourist destination in Netherlands has a lot to offer and one of the highlights is to visit the original windmills. The scenic view where the iconic windmills are located is truly unforgettableĀ and the trip to Holland would not be complete without a day trip to witness these beautiful old treasures.

There are over 1000 windmills in Holland and some of the windmills are still in operation and being used for drainage. Interestingly, the country celebrates annual National Windmill Day on the 2nd Saturday in May each year and 950 beautifully decorated windmills and watermills open their doors to visitors on that day! I would highly recommend visiting the windmills for anyone who is visiting Holland but the tour I had was a disappointment and it would have been nice if we were given more time to further explore the interior of a windmill. One of my favorite pic taken at Volendam!
